  1. Lacrosse is the oldest team sport in North America. It was played by North American indigenous people before any other organized sports was played. Also, even before European colonizers first set foot on the continent it was played as an organized sport by native tribes of North America
  2. Native Americans played lacrosse for many reasons, such as recreational activity and even to settle disputes between the tribes.
  3.  The game was wild, and it was used to prepare young men for war due to the physicality and strategic elements of lacrosse
  4. At the beginning of the 1100s Native Americans played the sport there were no rules, no timing, and no precise number of players. The game starts with the sunrise and ends with the sunset and sometimes single games last up to seven days. The number of players in each team varies from 100 to 1000.
  5. Europeans were the first ones to introduce certain sets of rules in the game and that version is quite like the one we are familiar with today.
  6. In a historical event in 1763, Native Americans launched a surprise attack against British soldiers by cleverly using a lacrosse game to distract them by playing lacrosse between two American tribes’ teams.
  7. Lacrosse is considered the fastest game on two feet that is played professionally the passing and ball movement can be so fast that sometimes viewers can’t track the ball moving across the lacrosse field.
  8. In 2009, the lacrosse GOAT, Paul Rabil shot the ball at an incredible 111 mph which is the fastest ball shot in any sport. However, in 2013, Mike Sawyer smashed Rabil’s record and shot the ball at 114 mph.

For instance, women’s lacrosse has 12 players as compared to 10 players in men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse is less physical, and game duration is also less as compared to men’s lacrosse.
  13. The offside rule in lacrosse is quite different from other ball sports.
  14. Lacrosse was part of the Olympic Games as a full medal sport in the 1904 and 1908 Olympics.
  15. Lacrosse is set to return to the Olympic Games in 2028
